It’s always been a dream of ours to create unique wines using top quality grapes sourced from Burgundy, one of the great winegrowing regions of the world. After working three harvests in the area this dream became a reality in 2012, with the purchase of a small amount of Chardonnay from the village of Puligny-Montrachet and Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin.
Gavin Monery began his career in the wine industry as a cellar hand in in Margaret River during the 2000 harvest. Disillusionment with commercial wines led to a move to the biodynamic Cullen Wines in early 2004. Here, Gavin helped craft some of Australia’s best Cabernet blends, along with top flight Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon.
Two years later Gavin took a sabbatical, touring the wine regions of the world, eventually returning to Margaret River in 2007 for a short stint at another iconic producer, Moss Wood. Keen to explore further he moved London, joining Roberson Wines in 2008. Since landing in Europe he has completed three harvests in Burgundy (Alex Gambal, Remmoissenet & Chavy-Chouet) and one with the esteemed Jean-Louis Chave in the Rhone.
Gavin Monery is also the winemaker for London Cru, London's first urban winery. London Cru launched in November 2013 following a manic year in which Gavin designed and managed the construction of the boutique winery, sourced grapes from across Europe and completed the first vintage - all within twelve months.
In 2012 he purchased grapes from parcels in Puligny-Montrachet and Gevrey-Chambertin, creating the label Le Rêveur Wines with his wife, Jo. Gavin regularly judges for both the International Wine Challenge and the Decanter World Wine Awards, and in his spare time can be found cycling the hills of Surrey or attempting to sample as many of the world’s wines as possible, though generally not at the same time.
Jo Monery began her love affair with wine (and Gavin, coincidentally), in 2001 in her native Australia, working on cellar door in a large Margaret River winery. Upon completing her Business degree at Curtin University, Jo spent two years working in the marketing team at a winery, before moving into the world of PR. Jo has been working with Gavin to create Le Rêveur Wines, and the ability to combine two of Jo’s greatest loves, travel and wine, is her dream come true.
